EYELID ENHANCEMENT

The eyes show the signs of aging before any other area on the face. And as you may have seen in yourself, this can affect either the upper and/or the lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery, along with the mini-facelift, has become a specialty of Dr. Chang's. Eyelid surgery is the second most common cosmetic surgery procedure performed in the United States. Women and men are lining up to take advantage of the newer techniques provided by Dr. Chang.

Upper Eyelid:
The development of upper eyelid skin excess is one of the earliest manifestations of aging. It not only adds wrinkles to the face, but it closes off the eyes, making them look less vibrant and awake.

The Procedure:
The excess eyelid skin can be surgically removed through an incision in the eyelid crease. This effectively camouflages the scar; making upper eyelid surgery one of the most "invisible", effective , and popular procedures in the plastic surgery armamentarium.

Lower Eyelid:
Three changes are common to the lower eyelid with aging. As the cheek fat falls with age, the lower eyelid skin stretches and wrinkles. The bone around the eye becomes more visible, and fat bags behind the eyelid frequently develop. Treatment of the lower eyelid is directed at improving these three changes by removing excess skin, treating the fat bags, and sometimes elevating the cheek.

The Procedure:
The excess lower eyelid skin can be surgically removed through an incision along the eyelash margin. This effectively camouflages the scar. Minimal skin excess can be treated with laser skin resurfacing.

Recovery
Most patients are back to work in 7-10 days. Bruising around the eyes generally takes a week to go away. The first postoperative visit is a day or two after your procedure. The sutures are removed in 5-7 days. Pain is minimal (sometimes negligible). Pain medications are prescribed. Ice compresses and head elevation for the first 2 days help with swelling and bruising.

Many people hesitate to get a facelift because they worry about looking "too pulled" or feel that they are too young for the procedure. In addition, plastic surgery reality shows show facelifts that require hospitalization, general anesthesia, and long and painful healing periods. Typically, the traditional facelift requires more than 4 hours to perform and 4 weeks for healing.

In today's world people want a younger looking face but don't want to take significant time away from their busy schedule. Also, they want a natural appearance that doesn't look "plastic".

The Weekend Facelift was developed as a modification of several facelift techniques to create a more youthful jawline and neck without the downside and downtime of a traditional facelift. The procedure involves a considerably smaller scar than a standard facelift and is performed in an office operating suite under local anesthesia.

NASAL SURGERY

Reshaping the nose is the most popular plastic surgery procedure in the world. An experienced surgeon with a keen sense of aesthetics can modify and improve virtually any aspect of your nose. Nasal refinement (rhinoplasty) can reduce the overall size, improve the tip, remove a bump, widen or narrow the width, or even improve the angle between the nose and the upper lip. Generally, any or all of the above changes can be made during one operation, which, at our surgery center, and usually takes about two to three hours. Working from inside the nose, we carefully modify and reshape the nasal bones and cartilages. When an oversized nose is made smaller, the nostrils may also need to be reduced in size. Unbalanced, crooked, or curved noses can be straightened and made more symmetrical. After surgery, a small plastic splint is placed on the nose to maintain the new shape and to protect it. This splint usually remains on for five days. You'll be up and around a day or two after surgery, and any discomfort you might feel can easily be controlled by medication.

Bruising around the eyes sometimes occurs, but it is usually gone in about a week. Keeping your head elevated and applying a cold compress to your eyes will also help reduce any swelling and bruising. Most people return to work within a week after nasal surgery, using makeup if there is any residual bruising. There will be subtle swelling of the nose that subsides over time. Your complete and final result may not be realized for weeks or even months, but you will see improvement within one week. Results can be immediate and dramatic if the nose was very large or if a large bump was removed, but usually the changes are not dramatic. A slight bump or oversized tip can be improved without attracting a great deal of attention. Friends and family my say that they don't see a major difference, but that's okay. Your surgery should improve your appearance without drawing attention to itself. Remember, the idea is not to create a new nose, but rather to improve the one that you have. And, remember, unlike some procedures that offer only temporary improvements, surgery of the nose lasts forever. You'll look better and feel better for the rest of your life.
