Facial Procedures:

The Non-Surgical Facelift

The Non-Surgical Facelift Procedure is a procedure that Dr. Chang has been performing in his offices in Loudoun and Fairfax Virginia for at least the last 5 years but is now gaining greater popularity and acceptance with the introduction of new options in facial fillers.

Nonsurgical Makeover in 3 Easy Steps Can Take Off Ten Years:

What if I told you I could take 5 to 10 years off of your appearance in 3 easy Nonsurgical Steps? Despite the fact that I perform hundreds of facelift and eyelid surgical procedures, not everyone is ready or appropriate for a surgical cosmetic improvement. For these patients, I tell them I can potentially give them back 5 to 10 years by using only nonsurgical procedures… in 3 Easy Nonsurgical Steps. This nonsurgical approach to facial rejuvenation is gaining traction. New Beauty Magazine made it their cover story with a picture of Christy Brinkley on the cover.

The Non-Surgical Facelift Procedure uses the first two steps of my 3-STEP Makeover. Using a combination of facial fillers such as Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylane, Sculptra, and/or Fat, we fill the facial volume that is lost with age and fill in the fine lines and wrinkles where appropriate. Botox is then used to relax hyperactive muscles such as the horizontal forehead wrinkles and the angry vertical lines of the glabella between your brows. Finally, I add the skin rejuvenating lasers to clean up and refresh the skin.

These steps completely address the main causes and signs of aging often without the need for a surgical solution. The face ages in easily predictable ways; all of which occur as a result of the loss of collagen. The face loses facial volume while the skin becomes lax.

Dr. Phillip Chang is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with offices in Loudoun ( Ashburn and Leesburg ) and Fairfax ( Reston ) Virginia. Dr. Chang specializes in surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic enhancements including breast augmentation, face lift and eyelid lift surgeries, rhinoplasty, tummy tucks, and other Face and Body Procedures.

Predictable Changes that Occur With Age:
  • Loss of facial volume leaving a depleted look to the face
  • Loss of collagen leading to skin laxity
  • Descent of fat and tissue
  • Sun Damage leading to skin irregularities, fine lines, and brown spots
  • Overactive facial muscles of the forehead, glabella, and crow’s feet

These changes can be addressed by some simple techniques that I have developed over the last 10 years.

  • Facial Fillers- to improve the appearance of your eyes and restore volume to the face
  • Botox- to reduce facial lines
  • ProFractional and IPL Photofacial Laser Treatments- to improve the appearance of the skin
How Will Facial Fillers Help With Facial Aging?

Depending on the patient, I use different facial fillers in a procedure I call the Nonsurgical Liquid Facelift. The Facial Fillers I prefer in my office include Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra and/or Fat Transfers. Although there are other facial fillers available, I do not feel that they add anything more than these four. As a group, as the name implies, fillers are used to fill in space. This function is extremely important as one of the principle changes of aging is the loss of facial volume.

The loss of facial volume results in several hallmarks of aging:

  • The face loses the roundness of youth particularly around the cheek bones and cheeks
  • The loss of volume leads to extra skin laxity and skin sagging
  • Volume loss below the eyes is the prime contributor to aging of the eyelid
  • Loss of lip volume not only leads to thin lips but it results in vertical wrinkles of the upper lip because of skin excess
  • Loss of upper cheek volume contributes to the crows feet lines

The use of facial fillers is one of the most important steps in the 3 step Nonsurgical Facial Rejuvenation Protocol. Using special techniques I have developed, I start by restoring the appearance of your eyes as the eyes usually show the signs of aging earlier and more than other areas.

How Can Facial Fillers Reduce the Aging of the Lower Eyelids?

Aging of the lower eyelids usually results from volume loss from the front of the cheek bones and the descent of cheek fat. These changes cause darkening of the eyelid as the orbital bone becomes more visible as well as thinning and lengthening of the lower eyelid, which then causes wrinkling of the eyelid skin. I use Radiesse directly injected into the cheek eyelid junction to restore the lost facial volume, which reverses many of the negative changes. This procedure by itself takes several years off the appearance of the eyelids and cheeks. I then use Radiesse, Juvederm, or Sculptra to add to the volume of the lateral cheekbone, which reduces the appearance of the crows feet lines.

How Can Facial Fillers Improve the Appearance of Skin Laxity and Facial Lines?

The general loss of facial volume as well as the loss of mature collagen leads to loose sagging skin and extra facial lines (imagine a balloon that loses its air). I use Sculptra to restore general facial volume and to restore youthful roundness to the face and to take out the slack of the loose skin. Some patients with more significant laxity will benefit from a mini-facelift.

How Can Facial Fillers Improve the appearance of the Parenthesis Lines (Smile Lines)?

The parenthesis lines (smile lines) are the lines extending from the nose to the corner of the mouth medial to the cheek. These lines result with increasing skin laxity and the descent of the lateral cheek. I use Juvederm or Radiesse to reduce the appearance of these lines.

How Can Facial Fillers Improve the Appearance of the Marionette Lines?

The marionette lines are the lines extending from the corner of the mouth to the chin. These lines result from increasing skin laxity and the descent of the lateral cheek. I use Juvederm or Radiesse to reduce the appearance of these lines.

How Can Facial Fillers Improve the Appearance of the Jowls?

The jowls result from descent of the fibro fatty tissue of the lateral cheek. Jowls cause the lower face to look square, losing the youthful roundness of the face. I use Juvederm or Radiesse to fill in front of the jowl and behind the chin to reduce the appearance of the jowl. In addition, by restoring cheek volume with Sculptra the jowl can often eliminate itself.

How Can Facial Fillers Improve the Appearance of the Nose

I first developed a procedure I called the Nonsurgical Nose Job in 2003. Using Radiesse or Juvederm, I can sculpt a nose without the need for a formal nose job (rhinoplasty). This technique is most appropriate to treat a nasal hump, a nose that needs more tip definition, or a nose that is too flat.

How Can Botox Get Rid of Bunny Lines

The bunny lines are the horizontal lines at the top of the nose caused by the nasal muscles. Bunny lines appear cute when you are a child blend in with the angry brow lines when you are older. Botox, which reduces the activity of the treated muscles, can decrease the strength of these muscles.

How Can an IPL Photofacial Get Rid of Brown Spots and Age Spots?

Age and accumulated sun damage causes the skin to change in predictable ways including the induction of brown spots, sun and age spots, and freckling. Other changes include loss of collagen, worsening skin texture, and loose skin. An IPL Photofacial will get rid of brown spots, improve skin texture, and reduce fine lines. An IPL Photofacial can also treat the hands, arms, face, and any other area. There is no down time. Most patients return to work the next day.

How Can a ProFractional Laser Treat Fine Lines, Improve Skin Texture and Reduce Fine Lines?

ProFractional Laser Skin Resurfacing uses a laser to create micro-thermal columns in the skin while leaving the surrounding skin alone. Increased collagen formation leads to skin tightening and treatment of fine wrinkles. Age and accumulated sun damage causes the skin to change in predictable ways including the induction of brown spots, sun and age spots, and freckling. Other changes include loss of collagen, worsening skin texture, and loose skin. Most patients will return to work in 3 to 5 days depending on the depth of treatment.

How Can a MicroLaser Peel Treat Fine Lines, Improve Skin Texture and Reduce Fine Lines?

MicroLaser Peel uses a laser to provide superficial skin resurfacing in a procedure that may take only 15 to 30 minutes.
Controlled superficial resurfacing results in smoother skin with better texture. Most patients will return to work in 2 to 3 days depending on the depth of treatment.

How Can combining the IPL Photofacial, the ProFractional Laser, and the MicroLaser Peel Help with Your Overall Skin Care?

The Triple Laser Treatment Package is an advanced combined Skin Care Protocol at Aesthetica which combines the benefits of the IPL Photofacial, the ProFractional, and the MicroLaser Peel all in one treatment and one recovery. Benefits include:
