For most patients considering a tummy tuck or breast surgery, a major worry is the size and visibility of the scar. While plastic surgeons are highly skilled at minimizing scars, even the most delicate and complex wound closures can leave scars that are not optimal. Dr. Phillip Chang of Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center offers advanced scar management and revision technology that greatly minimizes the appearance of tummy tuck and breast surgery scars.
embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy

Scar Formation — The Skin’s Natural Healing Process
Any surgery will result in a scar. The scar is formed when the skin’s natural healing process creates tension that causes a scar and scar tissue to form. Depending on the wound’s depth, the amount of tension, and the amount of scar tissue formed while it heals, the resulting scar can range from minimal to very noticeable. For his surgical patients, Dr. Chang recommends a relatively new product that significantly relieves the tension created during the healing process. By managing the tension, the scar can be greatly reduced.
How embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy Works
Each embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy dressing is designed to be worn once per week for up to eight weeks. When applied appropriately, embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy dressings can be worn during normal daily activities such as showering and exercising.
What Patients Say about embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy

Wearing the embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy dressings also help patients feel more secure after their surgeries, giving them the feeling that everything is being held in place by another protective layer. Even previous tummy tuck and breast surgery scars can be revised using embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy. Ask Dr. Chang if embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy can work for you.
Innovations in Placing Silicone Breast Implants
The number one complication of breast augmentation, capsular contracture occurs when the collagen-fiber capsule tightens and squeezes the breast implant. It can be very painful and discomforting, and can distort the aesthetics of the breast implant and the breast. Although the cause of capsular contracture is unknown, factors common to its incidence include bacterial contamination, rupture of the breast-implant shell, leakage of the silicone-gel filling, and hematoma. The Keller Funnel™ works to offset those capsular contracture risk factors.
The Keller Funnel™
The Keller Funnel™ was designed to improve delivery of silicone gel implants during breast augmentation procedures. To continuously improve surgical results for all of his patients, Dr. Chang uses the Keller Funnel™ in his silicone breast implant procedures. The Keller Funnel™ can be used with all types of silicone breast implants, as well as in transaxial, periareolar and mammary fold insertion procedures. Invented by a plastic surgeon, the Keller Funnel™ has many benefits to the patient, including:
- Shorter incision lengths (smaller and less noticeable scars)
- Improved comfort and faster healing
- Increased protection against infection
- More choices for incision placement
- Reduced force on the implant
- Less trauma to patient tissue
How the Keller Funnel Works
The Keller Funnel is a no-touch device, much like a pastry bag, that allows the implant to be inserted without contacting the skin or breast tissue. This reduces bacterial contamination risks and the potential for long term implant rupture. Cone shaped and made of nylon, the hydrophilic coating inside the funnel becomes extremely slippery when submerged in a saline or sterile solution. Once the implant is placed inside the funnel, Dr. Chang places the small distal end into the prepared breast pocket and, using a pushing/squeezing motion, propels the implant into place. The inside of the Keller Funnel is coated with LubriLAST™, a patented, proprietary hydrophilic coating manufactured and applied by AST Technologies. Safe for patients, LubriLAST passes all stringent biocompatibility tests associated with tissue and blood contacting devices.
